Mistakes cost Linnets

A Craig Parker equaliser 15 minutes from time was enough for The Linnets to take a share of the points at Langford Road.

The home side started on the front foot and took the lead with their very first attack, An unmarked George Bailey benefited from some slack Linnets defending to fire past Street from just inside the area.

In the very next attack the Linnets nearly drew themselves level, A delightful pass from Michael Gash found Michael Clunan inside the box but he could only fire his effort way over the bar.

Lynn finally got their reward on 21 minutes, A driving run into the box from Ryan Fryatt saw him hauled down inside the box that resulted in a penalty that was scored by Clunan despite the best efforts of Liam Gooch in the “Waders” goal.

A minute later and Biggleswade where back in front, Alex Street was guilty of not clearing a backpass quick enough and was quickly closed down by Jack Bowen who then saw a shot well saved by Street but Liam Brooks was on hand to tap home the rebound into the empty net.

Ten minutes into the second half the Linnets where reduced to 10 men, Skipper Michael Clunan receiving his marching orders for a nasty tackle on “Waders” winger Morgan Penfold.

The equaliser came on 74 minutes, A foul near the Corner flag on Ryan Hawkins led to a free-kick, Simon Lappin delivered it perfectly into the box and Craig Parker benefited from a goal mouth scramble to get the last touch on the ball to guide it into the net.

That seemed to spur Lynn on, Manager Ian Culverhouse had to shuffle the pack after loosing Ryan Fryatt and Simon Lappin both to knocks in the second half.

Manager Ian Culverhouse spoke after the game and had this to say,

“I’m pleased with how we’ve looked after the ball, We’ve dominated possession even after going down to 10 men”

“The goals we conceded where poor on our behalf, One from a throw in and the other from a bad mistake but we can’t worry about that, But what we did do was we showed good character after going down to 10 men late on and we really took the game to Biggleswade.

On the Clunan red card, “I thought he slipped, But Mike said he was late and caught him, It was was late so I’ve got no complaints, It’s a shame as Mike has been brilliant the last couple of weeks, BUT on the other hand it gives somebody else a chance.

“We have another tough game Saturday against Redditch, We are going to have to have a look round the dressing room as we’ve picked up a few lumps and bumps, People seem to thing that we have plenty of depth in our squad but I can assure we don’t. So we will train Thursday and see who we’ve got to pick from.
