The Linnets returned to the top of the Southern League as a dominate first half performance was enough to see off the boys from Dorset.
Lynn manager Ian Culverhouse restored midfielder Craig Parker to the starting line-up in place of the departed Sam Gaughran.
It was all one-way traffic in the opening 45 minutes with the home side dominating, Craig Parker twice and Cameron Norman going close inside the opening 20 minutes
The opening goal arrived on 28 minutes, Michael Clunan picked the ball up and unleashed a powerful 20 yard shot that was too good for Chris Weale to keep out.
Leon Mettam then benefitted from a small slice of luck to double Lynn’s advantage, A deflected shot towards the visitor’s goal fell into the path of Mettam who made no mistake in tapping the ball home.
Just a few minutes before the half time break Mettam was upended inside the penalty area by Neil Martin who received a yellow card for his troubles, Mettam then dusted himself down to slam the resulting penalty kick past the despairing Weale.
The second half didn’t live up to the first with chances coming few and far between, Substitute Tom Siddons going the closest for the home side.
The afternoon got better for Linnets fans as news filtered through that Kettering had conceded a late goal at Basingstoke to lose 3-2, The chasing pack of Slough and Hereford dropped points as a 2-2 draw between the two sides saw them drop points.
