Lilywhites survive Fleet battle

James Hall and Ryan Sharman were both on target as City negotiated a difficult encounter with Fleet Town to record their second victory on the bounce, despite the two games being a fortnight apart due to last weekends postponement.

In testing conditions, the first half barely rose above the mediocre as neither side could stamp their mark on the game. Not surprisingly, half-time was reached with the two sides locked at 0-0.

However, following a bit of encouragment during the interval teamtalk, City were better in the second half and took the lead soon after the restart with a sweeping move. Nathan Olukunmi surged up field with the ball and picked out Hall with a pinpoint centre, the City striker did the rest, ramming the ball home.

City looked to have a grip on the game with ten minutes left when Hall turned provider, finding his strike partner Sharman with measured cross that was headed home to double the visitors advantage.

It wasn't all over though and Fleet pulled a goal back in the 89th minute to provide a tense finish, particularly when four minutes of added time were indicated by the referee. There were to be no late goals to deny City their victory and a first league double of the season.
