This is the first of what I hope will be a regular column from Brett Donnelly. His views will always be honest and sometimes provocative but he will also be entertaining and provide an insight from within the dressing room.
His first column begins with his views on that Biggleswade performance.
"I think this was the worst Hitchin performance since I returned to the club. Not one of our players could say he did himself justice and as a team we really offered nothing. I felt we were far too quiet and there were not enough leaders in the team. Sometimes you need a player to do something that lifts the other players but this did not happen.
In the second half we did change our system and were playing 4-2-4 but we were continually caught on the break. Biggleswade could and should have scored more goals. This was the best Biggleswade team we have played but it really hurts to lose to my old club.
I can accept losing if we at least have a go but this was not one of those days. Our creativity was lacking and we were guilty of bad decision making in the final third. In the dressing room afterwards some home truths were told and the players feel these defeats as much as the supporters.
At training on Monday we had a team meeting to discuss what went wrong against Biggleswade. Every player was allowed his say and it proved constructive.
In our recent unbeaten run I felt our results were probably better than our performances whereas with the defeats at Royston and Banbury we were dominant for 70 minutes of each game but got no reward.
While we are not as good as last season we are still a good side. I think some clubs have copied our successful methods while we lost players to higher sides as we became victims of our own success. Also supporters should realise there are many clubs in our division with very big budgets.
