Liddiard Reflects

By Jack Moore

The Evo-Stik League South caught up with Evesham United player, Mat Liddiard.

The defender/midfielder had a great debut season for the Robins and we found out a little more about his time with them so far.

How have you found it at Evesham?

I have loved being with everyone involved at Evesham which includes the fans, coaching staff, players and everyone involved behind the scenes.

Thoughts on the season?
I have enjoyed this season but it didn’t go to plan as we would of liked to get promoted automatically and unfortunately we lost to Swindon Supermarine on penalties in the semi finals of the play off. We didn’t really hit consistent form until the end of the season and that’s what pushed us into the play offs. We were the team in form going into the play off and I feel that we should of got more out of that game and gone through to the final but that’s the way football goes and that’s why we all love playing and watching the game.

Are you pleased with your goal return?
I scored 21 goals this season which I am really pleased with. It is a great achievement for myself. I set myself a target of 10 at the start of the season but exceeded so set myself another of 20. I played the first half of the season centre midfield and then played the second half of the season at Centre Back.

What are your plans for the off season?
My plans for the off season is to have a couple of holidays but In-between, focus on work. Myself and Harlie Price are hosting a 6 a side tournament for semi pro and pro football clubs to enter with rules that will reduce the likelihood of injury. The main focus was the fitness side but making it game related and enjoyable. It will obviously have a competitive edge to it but that’s the nature of the game. It will give players the opportunity to express themselves against the best 6 a side teams.

Aims for next season?
I haven’t really thought about next season yet as the season has literally just finished but I already miss playing on the weekend. I am looking forward to what the future has to bring and to the start of the new season.

Where next?

Adjustments made to club allocations The FA’s Leagues Committee has been informed of the withdrawal from Step 4 competition of Andover Town FC.
