Leese wants repeat performance

Chesham United manager Andy Leese wants to see his Generals pick up where they left off on Saturday after bouncing back in midweek to put their opening day defeat in the EVO-STIK League Southern behind them.

Leese backed his squad on Friday after seeing them come back from a 3-1 reverse at Redditch United on Saturday in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight to beat St Ives 2-0 at The Meadow on Tuesday night.

Looking ahead to Saturday and hosting Dorchester Town, he told fans: "We want to pick up tomorrow where we left off on Tuesday night. Dorchester will be smarting from two defeats this week and we will need to be disciplined again defensively.

"I was pleased with how we responded on Tuesday night. We did not let St Ives settle and our attacking play showed far more threat than it did on Saturday.

"We scored at good times which helped. New players need to settle in to what we do, and the squad has to adapt to the style we want to employ this season. It takes time. I am confident by the end of the first seven games we will have a better understanding, and players will be familiar with each other.

"It is a demanding few days with the Hitchin game on Monday. Getting points on the board is all that matters in this frantic opening period of the season. As we know, it is not a league to be playing catch up."

Leese also updated supporters on his squad in the latest edition of the club's regular email bulletins.

He added: "One player who won't be with us this weekend is Kelvin Bossmann. Following an approach, Kelvin has decided to join Curtis Ujah at Enfield Town. We could not guarantee Kelvin the football he wanted, especially with Brad returning to action. I wish Kelvin well. He is a likeable guy, easy to manage, and did well for us when he got the opportunity.

"We will keep the squad under review this month with plenty of players becoming available, and our Reserve team showing they have some promising talent in their ranks again. Mat Mitchell-King is still a concern with an ankle injury sustained in the Hemel pre-season game. Tomorrow may be too soon for Mat, but we have George Fenton available again."
