The Evo-Stik League South Premier play-off final promised to be a tight affair as only a point separated hosts King`s Lynn Town, who finished as runners-up to Hereford FC, third-placed from Slough Town in the regular season.
And with Lynn winning 1-0 at home and sharing a 2-2 draw at Arbour Park when the teams met in league action, the pundits just gave them the edge.
The kick-off at The Walks was delayed by 30 minutes on police advice due to crowd congestion as 2,842 made their way to the Norfolk town on a Bank Holiday Monday when many other travellers on the same roads would have been heading for the coast.
And after the delay, it was the hosts who settled the quickest and Toby Hilliard gave them the lead in the 27th minute, poking the ball home at the far post after good work from Michael Gash and Ryan Fryatt.
However, 2 minutes before half-time, Chris Flood pulled the Rebels level when he headed home James Dobson`s corner.
Shortly after the restart, Lynn had a let-off when Scott Davies` shot cannoned back off the post.
In blistering heat, it looked all set for extra-time when, in the 89th minute, Slough sub Manny Williams evaded a challenge just inside the box to hammer home the winning goal to take the Rebels into the National League South.
