Just Champion Taunton!

It`s congratulations to Taunton Town, who are champions of the Evo-Stik League South West.

The Peacocks made sure of winning the title after beating fifth-placed Evesham United 1-0 at the Viridor Stadium before a crowd of just under 600 on Saturday.

The only goal came from the head of Josh Nelmes who headed in a corner in the 8th minute.

It was Taunton`s 29th unbeaten game!

Salisbury FC’s slim hopes of denying Taunton the title disappeared when they surprisingly lost 3-2 at the Ray Mac to Cinderford Town.

Lewis Benson bagged a brace for the Whites, but Craig Norman matched him for the Foresters, with Richard Greaves netting the decisive third in the 77th minute.

Steve Claridge`s side must now ensure they take second spot and they hold a four-point lead over neighbours Wimborne Town and fourth-placed Bristol Manor Farm, with Swindon Supermarine a point further back and Didcot Town occupying the final play-off berth.

Wimborne won 2-1 at Cossham Street against Mangotsfield United, thanks to Billy Maybury after 20 minutes and then Luke Burbidge in stoppage time at the end of the game after Jordan Williams had equalised from the penalty spot in the 13th minute.

Manor Farm though were held to a 1-1 draw at Cirencester Town, who probably required a win to keep their own top six hopes alive.

Cory Simpson`s goal just before the break had Manor Farm in front until the 89th minute when Ben Whitehead popped up with the hosts` leveller.

Supermarine were 3-1 winners at second-bottom Slimbridge, who hold a seven-point advantage over bottom side Bishops Cleeve, who drew on Saturday.

The Swans led through Edi Mbunga`s 7th minute spot-kick but `Marine were 3-1 in front by half-time through Bradley Gray, Connor Thompson and a Brad Hooper penalty.

Didcot won 4-0 at third-bottom Barnstaple Town to move into the play-off places at the expense of Evesham.

George Jeacock and Sam Barder had the Railwaymen two-up inside 10 minutes, Morgan Williams added a third on 27 minutes, with Louis Joyce making it 4-0 in the 55th minute.

Bideford AFC, with games in hand, maintained interest in the top six after winning 1-0 at Larkhall Athletic – Sean Downing the scorer after 68 minutes.

But AFC Totton`s hopes took a nose dive after the Stags were beaten 2-1 at home by lowly Shortwood United.

Jack Smith gave the hosts a 22nd minute lead, but Nick Humphreys after 54 minutes and Jack Freeman 7 minutes later turned the game in Shortwood`s favour.

Bishops Cleeve kept their survival hopes faintly alive with a 1-1 home draw with North Leigh in which Josh Thomas gave the visitors a 31st minute lead that the Mitres` Jack Watts cancelled out 3 minutes after the break.
