Hereford’s quality shows as Boro’ remain bottom

Symons double, Myrie-Williams and O’Shea condemn Boro’ to another defeat.

Gosport went into the game against the league leaders knowing they were going to be in for a very tough test.The win moved Hereford ten points clear of King’s Lynn in second, and still have a game in hand.

Ten-Grotenhuis made his Boro’ debut against the league leaders. Former Portsmouth striker Rowan Vine also returned to the club for his third spell, he made his first start in his current spell against Hereford.

Hereford asserted their dominance early on with Symons a constant threat. The tall striker had several chances early on, heading over O’Flaherty’s goal and also being ruled offside with one chance.

It was Symons himself who scored the visitors’ opening goal 13 minutes into the game. A ball was swung in from the right-hand side by Oates and the striker was there to head home into the bottom left corner.

O’Flaherty returned to the starting lineup for Gosport after Mark Childs, on loan from Eastleigh, made his debut on Saturday in the game with Stratford.

The goalkeeper made a good account for himself in the game. Myrie-Williams, who was a constant threat all evening, fired a low shot from the edge of the box and was saved by the former Bournemouth stopper.

Gosport’s biggest chance of the evening came for Ryan Pennery who found himself up against two players in the box. Twisting and turning, he got a shot away but it was comfortably saved by Horsell.

Gosport’s goal continued to be attacked when Myrie-Williams laid the ball back to Billy Murphy who curled his effort wide from the edge of the box.

Symons saw himself ruled offside just under ten minutes before the break as he continued to try and beat the Gosport backline.

Myrie-Williams was involved again on 40 minutes. His free-kick from the edge of the box curled just past O’Flaherty’s left post.

Just before the break, Elliot Richard’s shot from long-range was saved by the Boro’ goalkeeper. Mike Symons had the ball in the back of the net from the rebound, but the linesman’s flag had already been raised.

Gosport went in a goal down at the break.

There was a delay in proceedings getting underway again for the second-half because the Gosport net needed to be looked at by referee Andy Bennett.

Inside three minutes Eddie Wakley was pushed into the advertisement boards by Myrie-Williams, no card was given to the Hereford winger. Wakley then fouled Myrie-Williams minutes later and was shown a yellow card. He became the third Boro’ player to go into the book.

Hereford keeper, Martin Horsell, found himself on the edge of the box after clearing the ball which found it’s way to a Gosport player 30 yards out. The following effort was behind for a goal kick.

Gosport had the ball off the line in the 54th minute after a low shot from the edge of the box.

The visitors continued to press the Gosport defence, looking for another.

It was Myrie-Williams who got his goal on 64 minutes. A ball was put in behind the Boro’ backline for the winger who was composed and slotted home past O’Flaherty into the bottom left corner.

Five minutes later the top of the league quality showed again. It was O’Shea this time who helped himself to a goal. The ball found the Hereford number six with room on the edge of the box and he fired a shot into the bottom left for the hosts’ third of the evening.

A minute later it was four. Symons involved again as a long cross from the left-hand side found the hitman and he headed home for his second of the game.

The hosts continued to press till the final whistle, but couldn’t find the fifth goal.

The full-time whistle went and Hereford, who were backed with good support, ran out 4-0 winners
