Gosport's Great Escape

Staying Up..relief !!

After a season to forget, The Boro' boys pulled it round in another win securing safety from relegation.

Gosport started the game seemingly on the back foot, the home side had more control of the ball in the opening ten minutes, however, The Boro' back line proved to be far too strong from the off.

On the eighth minute St. Neots had two chances in quick succession, Dion Sembie-Ferris drilled the ball into the box causing havoc for the Gosport defense. This was the wake-up call Boro' needed.

Two minutes later both sides came close to securing an early goal, Ryan Pennery took the ball down the left-hand side, then cutting in to have his shot saved. St. Neots then on the offensive got into the traveling sides final third to then waste the chance.

A fairly even first half nearly came to an end fairly uneventful until Ben Wright popped up in the final seconds of the half, taking a shot and slotting past the home sides keeper. 1-0 Boro'.

The second half started with the traveling Boro' fans full of voice, you could really sense the occasion and this helped the boys on the pitch massively. The away side piled on the pressure trying to get back into the game, Harry Medway and his defense having none of it keeping the ball well away from Patrick O'Flaherty's goal.

On the 58th minute St. Neots eleven men turned into ten when goalkeeper George Bugg saw red for a foul challenge on Ryan Pennery. Minutes later Gosport capitalized on the home sides misfortunes with Pat Suraci heading home a second after a great piece of play.

On the 65th the game seemed all but over when substitute scored The Boro's third minutes after coming on for Rowan Vine. Rowley Park was electric with the sounds of Gosport faithful cheering 'We are staying up', it would have been hard to disagree with them as this point with fellow relegation battlers Dunstable 2-0 down to Frome town.

Ten minutes before the final whistle Joe Lea found himself with the ball in a great position, his resulting shot then beating the keeper and turning every single Boro' fan into delirium. 4-0 Gosport.

The final whistle came and that was it... Gosport Borough Football Club are safe!!! A truly superb effort from every single Gosport player. Winning our final three games of the season, scoring thirteen goals and conceding none, Gosport proved we have heart and that we can all pull together and write history.
