Gosport Win Relegation `Six-Pointer`

It now could hardly be tighter at the foot of the Evo-Stik League South Premier after Gosport Borough moved off the bottom of the table following a 2-0 win at Creasey Park against the team they swapped places with, Dunstable Town.

In front of a crowd of 352, the occasion seemed to affect both sets of players early on and neither side were able to take real control of the game in the first half, although Dunstable did have an effort cleared off the line by Ed Sanders.

The second half came to life, and eventually the deadlock was broken 17 minutes from time when Ben Wright smashed home a cross from the right-hand side.

Boro then doubled their lead 7 minutes later through sub Craig McAlister, who shrugged off a number of Dunstable defenders before slotting the ball past Nathan Marness.

Dunstable struggled to get back into the game after the second goal and Boro returned to Hampshire with all three vital points which leave the teams level on points and Boro holding a 2-goal advantage.

So, it`s all down to the final day, with Gosport travelling north to St Neots Town and Dunstable making the trek to Somerset to play Frome Town.

Third-bottom St Ives Town shared a 2-2 draw at Westwood Road with Basingstoke Town in the evening`s other game.

Callum Bunting gave the visitors a 22nd minute lead that George Bennett doubled 2 minutes after half-time.

But the Saints battled back to share the spoils, courtesy of Dubi Ogbonna in the 54th minute and then 7 minutes later from the spot.
