Saturday’s second battle of the nations, Merthyr Town traveled down to a wet and windy south coast. Gosport Borough started the game with great confidence, running at The Martyr’s defense with great pace. However at the ten-minute mark Merthyr started to show some authority, Ian Taylor dominating The Boro’s box then finding his shot saved.
Twenty minutes in and the Welsh sides dominance begun to prevail, after a series of corners Corey Jenkins found himself with the ball outside the box then seeing his shot slip through the keepers hands.
The hearts of Gosport faithful begun to brake with their side seemingly losing touch with the game, The Martyrs maintained a strong defensive line, seeing away any build up for The Boro’.
Second half began very much like the first, Gosport came out strong with a series of shots on goal showing real intent. Craig McAllister producing some great link up plays with Ryan Pennery.
With ten minutes left of the game Gosport really turned on the heat. On the 81st Gosport caused immense panic in Merthyr Town’s box which lead to multiple attempts at goal, McAllister’s effect struck off the keeper then landing to the feet of Stephane Bombelenga for him to slot the ball into an empty net. The Boro finished the game with great momentum moving forward.
