Gosport Borough to move forward

Gosport Borough FC have released an official statement regarding the takeover of the club.

Gosport Borough Football Club are delighted to confirm that it has successfully negotiated a takeover deal which will secure the long-term future of the club.

With Immediate effect, Iain McInnes takes over as Chairman and Ray Stainton becomes CEO. Iain Sellstrom will take the role of Vice-Chairman. Other appointments to a new board will be announced in due course.

Mr McInnes was instrumental in saving Portsmouth FC from the threat of extinction and then led the transition to a fan-owned club and becoming Chairman prior to the take-over by Michael Eisner. A successful businessman, Iain will bring huge benefits to the club.

Mr Stainton has been involved in football throughout his life. As an ex-player he was board member and shareholder of the former Waterlooville FC. He managed the merger which led the formation of Havant & Waterlooville FC. Ray had a period as CEO under John Gregory at Portsmouth FC and was also involved with Iain McInnes and turning around the fortunes of ‘Pompey’

As Chairman, Iain has already stated he wants to see attractive football at Gosport where he is keen to encourage and promote the community club ethos. We hope the fans will return in numbers to support the club.

These appointments will further cement the future of the club and will enable it to begin work in returning up the league structure. Remaining in the Southern Premier is imperative this season as work begins to improve the facilities at Privett Park and develop the on-field capabilities.

The club would wish to extend its thanks to former Chairman Iain Sellstrom and his board and supporters for their efforts to save the club and bring it to this position.
