Friday night's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Stratford Town made it three wins from their last four matches in the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division on Friday night with a 2-1 win to increase Hayes & Yeading United's fears of a second successive relegation, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Hayes & Yeading, who beat basement side Cinderford Town 5-0 on Tuesday night, started well in this game at Holloways Park. And they took a 14th minute lead when Stratford`s otherwise excellent goalkeeper Niall Cooper spilled a Sahr Kabba effort and Mitchell Weiss lashed home the loose ball.

But the lead lasted barely 10 minutes, the visitors` Ed Ahenkorah firing home a terrific 30-yard effort past Danny Boness in the United goal following a half-cleared corner.

And what proved to be Stratford`s winner came with 19 minutes of the game remaining when Kidderminster Harriers loanee, George Forsyth, met Will Grocott`s corner with a thumping header.

The win assures Stratford`s place in the Premier Division for another season but defeat for United means they remain a point adrift of the safety mark with games now running out.
