Saturday's Evo-Stik South, West Review

By Jack Moore

The top two in the Evo-Stik League South, West both won on Saturday.

However, play-off chasing Salisbury FC had their game with fourth-placed Bideford abandoned shortly before half-time.

Debutant Owen Howe scored on his debut after just 3 minutes and Stuart Green 8 minutes later and Eddie Perrett after 26 minutes had Steve Claridge`s side in command.

Taunton had to survive a comeback from Somerset rivals Larkhall Athletic before the visitors could confirm a 3-2 victory.

The Peacocks led through Pierce Mitchell after 10 minutes and then Chris McGrath 5 minutes after half-time and Dan Sullivan 5 minutes later.

George King reduced the deficit in the 68th minute, but nerves jangled a bit when Matt Britton pulled a second back for the Larks 5 minutes from time.

Manor Farm continue their excellent first season at Step 4 level with a 3-1 success at improving Yate Town.

Dean Stamp got the derby off to a good start for the visitors when he put them in front after 10 minutes.

Then a brace of penalties converted by Kyle Holly in the 28th and 68th minutes took the game away from the Bluebells, who had Kyle Tooze dismissed in between.

But the ten-men did manage a last-gasp consolation from Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist.

Winchester City are now third after beating another top six contender, Evesham United.

The deadlock was broken just past the hour-mark when sub Rob Carr gave City the lead.

Another player who came off the bench, Ik Hill, doubled City`s lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Wimborne Town and AFC Totton are fifth and sixth respectively and are now level on thirty points after the Magpies could only manage a 1-1 draw at third-bottom Barnstaple Town.

Jamie Stokoe gave the visitors the lead just before half-time, but Barum earned a draw, thanks to Aaron Harper-Penman 18 minutes from time.

The Stags beat Cirencester Town 2-1 at Testwood Park, coming back from being a 38th minute Tom Anderson goal down to win, thanks to a Craig Feeney spot-kick right on half-time and then a second from open play 9 minutes into the second half.

Bishops Cleeve remain rooted to the foot of the table after losing 2-0 at Kidlington, for whom Lance Williams on 69 minutes and a Duran Martin penalty 5 minutes later were on target, while second-bottom Mangotsfield United lost 1-0 at Shortwood United, who moved up to fourth-bottom.

Recent recruit Nick Humphreys broke the deadlock to give Shortwood a 64th minute lead.

But 5 minutes from time, a fracas between Ryan Thwaite and Simon Gilbert following a coming together saw both dismissed, along with the home side`s Alex Kibble.

Didcot Town enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 home win over Slimbridge.

The only goal of the opening half came from Marlon Agyakwa on 33 minutes.

But Felipe Barcelos maintained his good scoring form by doubling the Railwaymen`s lead on 66 minutes and then goals from Seth Humphries and Ollie Thomas in the last 5 minutes put gloss on the scoreline.

The day`s other winners were Swindon Supermarine, who saw off Paulton Rovers 2-1 at the WebbsWood with a brace from Josh Parsons after 21 and 60 minutes – Jack Ball having sandwiched an equaliser in the 53rd minute.
