Saturday's Evo-Stik South, East Review

By Jack Moore

AFC Rushden & Diamonds`eighth game unbeaten and third successive 2-0 win saw them remain top of the Evo-Stik League South, East table on goal difference from AFC Dunstable, who also won on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of 483 at Hayden Road, Diamonds beat a Hartley Wintney side whose own promotion hopes have taken a nose dive in recent weeks.

However, they held the hosts until the turning point of the game midway through the second half when the visitors had Steve Noakes dismissed for bringing down Tom Lorraine.

Shortly afterwards, Ryan Robbins broke the deadlock to give the home side the lead and on 84 minutes, Ben Farrell doubled their lead and confirmed victory.

AFC Dunstable were more comfortable 5-0 Creasey Park winners over bottom-markers Arlesey Town.

The hosts matched the leaders by registering a fifth straight win, with Bill Morgan`s brace on the 21st and 28th minutes giving them a 2-0 interval lead.

Nathan Frater made it 3-0 just 2 minutes after the break and Terry Griffiths on 58 minutes and BJ Christie 9 minuets later made it a nap hand.

Things went from bad to worse for Arlesey as they had both Akti Krasniqi and Luke Abrahams sent-off for second yellow card offences.

It`s all going a bit pear-shaped for long-time leaders Moneyfields at present as they lost at home for the second time in a week and have dropped down to fourth in the table.

The Moneys were beaten by a Bedford Town side who last weekend failed to even take the field after a player dispute.

David Manu was the Eagles` hero in Hampshire, bagging a brace in the 30th and then the 71st minutes.

Beaconsfield Town are now third, but had to make do with a point from their Holloways Park draw with mid-table Northwood.

Credit Woods though as they came back from being two Aaron Minhas goals down after 6 and 12 minutes to claim a point.

Tom Gilbey on 36 minutes and then Isaac Olorunfemi right on the stroke of half-time were the visiting marksmen.

Cambridge City are fifth after comprehensively hammering third-bottom Aylesbury United 6-1 at Thame.

Goals from the returning James Hall after 16 minutes and Ryan Sharman 3 minutes later gave the visitors a two-goal interval lead.

Connor Furlong immediately pulled the Ducks back into the game after the break, but Sharman went on to complete his hat-trick in the 56th and 59th minutes and Tom Knowles on 66 minutes and Jack Vasey 4 minutes later made it a final 6-1 verdict.

Hayes & Yeading United are sixth, but were beaten 3-0 at Honeycroft by neighbours Uxbridge.

The second biggest crowd in the division – 256 – saw Dylan Kearney give the Reds a 24th minute lead that Rhys Rabess doubled immediately after the break.

Kearney added his second and Uxbridge`s third after 68 minutes, and Hayes` misery was complete when Reds` keeper Paul McCarthy even denied them a penalty consolation.

Second-bottom Hanwell Town went down to a best-of-five home defeat to Aylesbury FC.

Charlie Mitchell had Hanwell in front after 21 minutes, but Brian Haule 5 minutes before the break and Ty Deacon 9 minutes after it had the Moles ahead, and Deacon made it 3-1 with 19 minutes left.

Ricky Pither pulled one back on 88 minutes but Hanwell couldn`t find a leveller.

Ben Sturgess was Thame United`s hero as he bagged a brace in the 33rd and then 3 minutes from the end to beat Egham Town at the Runnymede Stadium, Callum Webb having equalised in the 81st minute.

Chalfont St Peter enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 home win over Marlow, taking an 11th minute lead through Alex Paine.

Victor Osobu added a second 10 minutes later, with Jake Cass making it game over with a third goal on 68 minutes.

Fourth-bottom Barton Rovers` surprising struggles continue after last season`s play-off finalists were beaten 2-1 at Sharpenhoe Road by Ashford Town (Middx).

Jack Beadle gave the Ash Trees an 11th minute lead that Danny Jarvis cancelled out after 32 minutes.

But Max Webb`s goal 2 minutes after half-time in the end proved decisive for the visitors.

Kempston Rovers came back from two-down to share the points with Fleet Town at Calthorpe Park.

Patrik Ruzicka on 55 minutes and Brad Wilson 3 minutes later gave Fleet their advantage.

But Robbie Goodman on 71 minutes and Jake Newman 8 minutes later earned the Walnut Boys a point.
