Barnstaple Town joint-manager Kevin Darch blamed schoolboy errors for his side’s 3-2 defeat to Yate Town on Tuesday evening.
Barum twice led, 1-0 and 2-1, through goals from Billy Hopcroft and Harry Stevens, but the visitors equalised before half-time and then snatched a winner in the second half.
Darch admitted it was the tale of his side’s season and said that errors could cost them dear.
He said: “It was basic schoolboy errors that cost us again – similar story, there was nothing between the teams, it was quite an evenly-matched game.
“We scored two good goals but basically gifted them three goals, which, if we keep doing that, is what’s costing us at the minute.
“It’s tough to take but we’ve just got to keep plugging away and keep going, really.”
Barum currently sit 20 in the table, eight points above bottom side Bishops Cleeve, who have two games in hand.
