A difficult start to the season, cost manager Andy Pike his position, a very difficult decision for Chairman Ian Sellstrom to make.
The Chairman, Board and everyone connected with the Club would like to thank Alex for his unceasing efforts during his time at Gosport Borough F.C and wish him well for the future.
Alex joined the Boro’ in December 2005 and has been a loyal servant to the club for 12 years. He has overseen many successes during his time as manager of Gosport Borough including winning the Wessex League in first full season in charge (2006-07), promotion to the Southern League Premier division (2011-12) and promotion to the Conference South for the first time in the club’s history in 2013.
Every Boro fan will remember Alex’s finest hour when he led the team to the F.A Trophy Final at Wembley in 2014. The following season, Gosport reached the First Round Proper of the F.A Cup and Alex was awarded ‘Coach of the Year’ by The Portsmouth News.
The last couple of years have been very difficult for Alex, but he has stuck with The Club in an attempt to help turn around its fortunes. However, results have not been favourable at the start of this season and Chairman, Iain Sellstrom, felt that now was the right time to call an end to Alex’s tenure as manager.
“This has been a very difficult decision given Alex’s loyalty to the club over the past 12 years. I have very much enjoyed working with Alex since I took office but it is my duty to put the club’s long-term interests first as my primary consideration.
Everyone connected with Gosport Borough should recognise the effort and commitment Alex has brought to his role as Manager of this special club.”
