St Neots Win Battle Of The Saints

St Neots Town won the battle of the Saints on Thursday night to condemn third-bottom neighbours St Ives Town to a 3-1 defeat at The Premier Plus Stadium in the Evo-Stik League South Premier on Thursday night.

Mid-table St Neots got off to a great start when David Bridges put them in front after less than 4 minutes had gone on the clock.

Tom Wood then had an effort cleared off the line as the hosts started with a bang.

St Ives` hopes were significantly diminished when they were reduced to ten-men midway through the first half when recent signing from AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Lewis Leslie, was shown two quick yellows.

And 5 minutes before the break, the hosts increased their advantage when impressive youngster Jordan Norville-Williams set up Nabil Shariff who puts the ball under the keeper to make it 2-0.

Nine minutes into the second half, Norville-Williams lit up the stadium with a terrific run and shot from 25 yards that flew into the far corner of the net.

St Ives did manage a consolation in the 88th minute when Danny Kelly scored after a good counter but it was too little too late.
