Saturday's Premier Division Round-Up

By Jack Moore

Just a handful of matches in the Evo-Stik League South Premier on Saturday due to the Emirates FA Cup and they saw Merthyr Town slip into the top five after a best-of-five win at St Ives Town.

Jaye Bowen gave the Martyrs an early 10th minute lead that Ian Traylor doubled 3 minutes later.

Phil Draycott reduced the deficit within a minute, and that ended the first half scoring.

Traylor`s second of the game on 69 minutes seemed to settle the points for the visitors, although an 84th minute James Hall effort made it a nervy finale.

Tiverton Town could have joined King`s Lynn Town in joint second spot had they won at Ladysmead against St Neots Town.

However, the Saints made their long journey to Devon worthwhile with a 2-1 success, courtesy of a brace from Ryan Horne after 25 and 41 minutes.

Top scorer Levin Landricombe reduce the arrears in the 68th minute, but Tivvy weren`t able to find a leveller.

Basingstoke Town ended a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 Camrose win over a Redditch United aside who could also have gone joint second.

It took until the 75th minute for Terry Brown`s side to make the breakthrough, thanks to a Ben Wright penalty.

And then just 3 minutes later, Marcus Johnson-Schuster added a second, with the icing on the cake coming from new signing from Chesham United, Callum Bunting, in the 82nd minute.

Gosport Borough`s new boss Mick Catlin couldn`t help his side to break their duck as Hitchin Town condemned them to a ninth defeat in ten games – and remain win-less.

Brett Donnelly put the visitors in front after just 5 minutes, but it wasn`t until 10 minutes after half-time that Connor Vincent bagged the Canaries` second, with Tremayne Charles adding a third 4 minutes into stoppage time.

George Bailey proved to be Biggleswade Town`s hero at the Carlsberg Stadium as his hat-trick sealed a 3-0 verdict against Farnborough.

Bailey scored in the 42nd, 66th and 78th minutes.
