Club Statement
In light of Aylesbury FC's statement on their website on Sunday 11th February regarding a possible merger/groundshare, the board of Aylesbury United would like to provide the following clarification.
A few weeks ago, Aylesbury FC requested a meeting with Aylesbury United under the general heading of 'the two clubs working closer together'. At that stage no further detail was provided.
The meeting took place at The Holiday Inn on 18th January. As Aylesbury FC had called the meeting they were asked to detail what they saw as 'the two clubs working closer together'. Steve MacDonald for Aylesbury FC outlined a long term vision of the clubs working closely together for the good of Aylesbury Football. For the immediate future he proposed a groundshare between the two clubs at Haywood Way as a starting point for our new relationship.
Aylesbury United advised that we were currently in negotiations with Chesham United to continue ground sharing with them next season as we were happy with our current arrangement but agreed to consider a ground share agreement with Aylesbury FC in principle. It was advised that any proposal made by Aylesbury FC to us would have to be put to 21CD for their approval/comment.
It was advised by Aylesbury FC that they would need to call a meeting of their members to gain agreement to this proposal in order for us to move forward and it was agreed that they would do this and report back. It was further agreed that no communication with regard to this matter would be made by either club without prior communication and agreement.
Nothing further was heard by Aylesbury United until we became aware of the statement posted on Sunday. It was disappointing that this statement was made without any prior contact with us.
