Cup honour marks duo's milestone

Leese and his number two guided their side to a comfortable 3-0 win over Dorchester Town after chairman Brian McCarthy presented the pair with the award and mementos to mark the landmark fixture and one of the most famous victories in the club's long history.

The Generals won an FA Facebook poll to celebrate last season's greatest giant-killing by a landslide for their 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers in the first round, Ryan Blake’s 77th-minute strike at the Memorial Ground sealing a famous win for a side sat 75 places below League Two Rovers last November.

The EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division club's officials were originally presented with the honour during half-time of May's FA Cup Final by FA Cup legend Radford, whose winning goal for Hereford United against Newcastle United in 1972 was the defining moment of one of the greatest-ever giant-killings.

Following Monday's FA Cup draw, United, who drew 1-1 at Hitchin Town on Monday night, will kick off their next FA Cup campaign with a home game at The Meadow against either Long Melford or Saffron Waldron Town in the first qualifying round on September 3.

When they were orginally presented with the accolade, Leese said: “This is absolutely fantastic. I’ve just had a look at the previous winners so for us to win something like this is amazing. It’s a great reward for the players and their fantastic achievement. It was a fantastic occasion for us."
