Crows boss disappointed despite derby win

Steve Castle has told his Royston Town side to be more clinical and finish teams off following last night’s 2-1 derby win over St Neots Town.

The Crows were 2-0 up just 17 minutes in after John Frendo opened the scoring with a brilliant half volley from the edge of the area into the top corner, followed by a Lee Chappell free kick from near the right-hand touchline which evaded everyone, including Saints keeper Mike Emery, to sail into the same corner.

Castle’s men could have been five goals up by the break as they cut through their visitors at will, with Adam Marriott, Ed Asufu-Adjayi and Sam Corcoran all going close to putting the game to bed before half time.

But the tables were turned in the second half as Saints suddenly found their feet while Royston took their feet off the gas, and although Lewis Irwin pulled one back for the visitors late on, the Crows held on to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Chesham.

“We were worthy 2-0 winners at half time, but it was literally a game of two halves in as much as we turned up like we were competing, and then second half we didn’t show up,” said Castle. “We made it difficult and I don’t understand, I really don’t.

“We should be more clinical, we should be making sure when we’re 2-0 up at home teams don’t come back. We’ve given them a goal, and to a degree we’ve hung on a little bit, so it’s a really weird situation – we’ve got three points but I’m feeling a bit disappointed with it.

“There were a lot of good things to come out of Saturday, but our finishing wasn’t one of them. For half an hour tonight that was rectified, albeit with a free kick which probably wasn’t meant to go in, but John Frendo’s finish was of a quality you expect from John.
