Crocked stopper is on the mend

Slough Town have thanked everybody involved in caring for their keeper Mark Scott after he sustained a serious neck injury on Saturday during their 3-2 win over Basingstoke in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight.

The former Swindon Town, Salisbury and Oxford City stopper was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough by ambulance after being looked after by the physiotherapists of both clubs on the pitch for nearly 40 minutes, pictured, following an early collision at Arbour Park.

Following news from joint managers Neil Baker and Jon Underwood, the Rebels confirmed on Sunday that the 27-year-old had suffered a shattered vertebrae in his neck as fans from across the EVO-STIK League Southern, including supporters at leaders Chippenham Town where he's played on loan, continued to send him their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

In a statement on their website updating fans on Scott's condition, the Rebels said: "The latest news is that Mark has shattered his C6 vertebrae in the base of his neck. Mark is currently at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, where he remains immobilised and is undergoing a number of tests and scans.

"The club wishes to express its gratitude for the professionalism and speed with which Mark was treated by both clubs' physiotherapists, Kevin McGoldrick and Kelly Rutledge. The immobilisation of Mark by Kev and Kelly was key in preventing spinal cord damage.

"Thanks is also due to the the match officials, led by Conor Farrell, the players, managers and officials of Basingstoke Town, Sam Newman and his team of stewards, Slough Borough Council and the club's volunteers who all came together in challenging circumstances to manage the emergency situation.

"We will await more news on Mark's condition before making any further statement. The club will continue to offer full support to Mark, Emma and his family during this difficult time and throughout Mark's recovery. In the meantime, our thoughts and best wishes are with them."

Midfielder Gurkan Gokmen took the gloves after Scott's injury before the Rebels went on to show the strength of mind to secure a vital win and three points to keep them firmly rooted in the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division play-off spots.
