City Hit Seven – Moles Shock Beaconsfield

By Jack Moore

Cambridge City moved up to second in the Evo-Stik League South, East table after hammering bottom-markers Arlesey Town 7-3 at St Ives on Monday night.

City have certainly found their scoring boots of late and made it 27 goals in their last seven matches in all competitions.

Tom Knowles, on-loan from SkyBet League Two neighbours Cambridge United, helped himself to a second half hat-trick with goals in the 54th, 62nd and 65th minutes after Lewis Wilson in the 9th, Mason Spence in the 15th and Ryan Sharman on the half-hour mark had given the home side a 3-0 interval lead.

Sharman notched his second 2 minutes after the break.

All that was rather harsh on Arlesey`s Tony Williams, who scored a triple of his own in the 11th, 80th and 90th minutes.

The evening`s other game saw sixth-placed Beaconsfield Town fail to take the opportunity to move up to joint second with City after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Holloways Park to an Aylesbury FC outfit who made it back-to-back wins after beating another of the high-flyers, Hartley Wintney, on Saturday.

After a delayed kick-off while the line markings were improved to the referee`s liking and a goalless first 45 minutes, it was the Moles who came away with the points, thanks to two fine strikes from Harry Scott after 52 and 66 minutes and an excellent finish by Ty Deacon 16 minutes from time.
