Blues mourn chairman at Christmas

EVO-STIK League Southern Fleet Town are in mourning for chairman Steve Cantle who passed away on Friday only hours after attending a Christmas meal with the club's players, management and officials.

The Blues chairman, pictured, is thought to have suffered a heart attack at home on Friday after spending Thursday night celebrating Christmas at the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central club's festive get together in Fleet.

Following a request by the Blues and the agreement of Farnborough FC, the Boxing Day fixture between the clubs at Calthorpe Park was postponed by the EVO-STIK League Southern's officials at midday on Christmas Eve.

The Blues announced the passing of their "beloved" chairman in a short statement on their website confirming the postponement at the request of his family.

Since announcing the sad news, the Hampshire club's fans, players and officials have been inundated with messages of sympathy and condolences on social media from throughout the EVO-STIK League Southern and wider football family for a man mourned by many as one of "football's good guys".
