Last Saturday morning, 1st July, saw Banbury United Supporters, with red and gold colours proudly displayed, on a sponsored ten mile walk around the town to raise funds for stadium improvement works and for the “Save our Horton Hospital” campaign.
Around 20 supporters set-off from the clubhouse at 10.00am. The route of ten miles took in a number of club sponsors' outlets and premises as well as the High Street in the Town Centre.
It is estimated from sponsorship forms and pledges that the Walk has raised a fantastic total sum of around £4,000, of which 10% as agreed will be given to the "Save our Horton" campaign with the remainder being used to improve facilities at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium to enhance supporters matchday experience.
Banbury United Communications Director David Shadbolt commented “As a supporters owned club, we were delighted to see so many fans coming out to help the club, it demonstrates the bond that now exists between supporters and their club. In addition as a community focused club everyone involved was pleased that the Walk was able to make a contribution to the vital efforts being made to ensure the continuation of services at the Horton Hospital.”
