Alex Salmon set to return

By Jack Moore

The return of a familiar face could be what Marlow FC need to shore up their leaky defence.

Manager Mark Bartley has confirmed defender Alex Salmon is due to re-sign for the Oak Tree Road club in time for their league match against Egham Town next month.

Despite finding the opposition’s net with relative ease so far this season, the Blues have struggled at the back, shipping nine league goals this month alone.

This includes Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to lowly Fleet Town.

And even Tuesday night’s apparently dominating 3-1 home victory against Thame United was not without its defensive concerns.

But Bartley hopes a blast from the past in the form of centre half Salmon will inject a bit of steel into his defensive line.

“Alex has some work commitments last season, but he was a mainstay of our defence for my first four years,” he said.

“The players know him and respect what he brings to the side and I think he’ll be good for us.

“He played under my management for four or five years, so he knows how I work and how I play.”
